Does Vinegar & Dawn Clean Carpet Stains?
White Soda: An effective method for eliminating stains is with white soda, including stains stemming from beer or wine. Begin blotting at the affected area using towel or cloth soaked with white soda. You can mix the soda with water and white vinegar should you need something a little more heavy-duty. Apply the mixture directly to the area and let the solution soak in for about 15 minutes before soaking it up with a sponge. Until the stain is lifted, repeat to remove these carpet cleaning.
Hydrogen Peroxide: You can clean the tougher stains using some hydrogen peroxide in the event you have a stain that is a result of blood, which is notorious for removing. To loosen up the blood in the affected area, you should first try the use of a mixture of mild soap and water. Before you apply the hydrogen peroxide to the stain, you can then scrape it away from the carpet as much as possible once the blood has broken down. Once it comes into contact with blood, expect the solution to foam. Following approximately 30 seconds, blot and dry.
Dawn & Vinegar: Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed.
Blot Don’t Scrub: While treating spots and stains, people commonly make a big mistake, and that is attempting to rub the stain away when treating the mess. You potentially damage it from the friction and stress of the rubbing motion in addition to pushing the stain down deeper into the carpet fibers. A better, more effective method of cleaning up a stain is blotting, ultimately. Place a small amount of pressure on the area as you focus on soaking up the stain, as opposed to rubbing it away. To help prevent the stain from spreading, blot on the outside and work your way towards the center.
Addressing Gum: The best method of removing it is to essentially freeze-dry it, in the event you have chewing gum that’s been pressed into the carpet fibers. Put a few ice cubes on the gum and let it sit for a few minutes, once frozen or hard, use a spoon to lift up the piece of gum and cut the strands as close as possible. Should there be any gum left behind for you to continue working on, you can keep refreezing as needed.
