If the grease is on your upholstery, you’ll need to scrape off all excess grease. Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch or something else that will absorb the stain and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and vacuum. Use a sponge or a clean white cloth with a dry-cleaning solvent and blot until the solvent is absorbed. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 3 and 4. If the grease is on your carpet, you’ll need to scrape off all excess grease. Use one of the stain absorbers that are used for stains on upholstery and use the sponge or cloth with the dry-cleaning solvent. If the stain is still visible, mix a tablespoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and a tablespoon of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Sponge the stain with the solution and keep blotting until the liquid is absorbed. Then sponge with cold water and blot dry to remove the detergent/vinegar solution. You may need to use a stiff bristled brush to break the stain up with these methods.

More Ways to Remove Grease Stains

Method #1- This is an item you probably already have in your home. It’s shaving cream! Lightly rub shaving cream on the stain with your fingers and leave it for about 30 seconds and then saturate it with warm water. Put something absorbent on it and use books, bricks or any other heavy items and leave it for two to three hours. The reason that shaving cream might work is because of the soap in it along with other grease cutters that help in removing the stain from the carpet. Use old-school types of shaving cream, like Barbasol, because it’s a more classic cream and doesn’t contain a lot of additives. Newer creams might be gentler on your skin but they have moisturizers and conditioners like aloe and other ingredients that can stain the carpet or leave a greasy film on it. It’s a good idea to avoid using moisturizing shaving cream or any type of shave gel on any carpet stain.
Method #2- Use a dry spotter by combining 8 parts liquid dry-cleaning solvent and 1-part coconut oil. You can use mineral oil but it may not be as effective as coconut oil. Place an absorbent pad on top of the solution after its been put on the stain so the pad can pick up the stain and draw it into the pad.
Method #3- Vinegar method. Apply a few drops of white vinegar and a wet spotter. Mix a wet spotter solution by using one part dishwashing detergent and one part glycerin with eight parts water. Shake it up in a water bottle and spray the solution on an absorbent pad. Put it on the stain and replace the pad as needed to continue lifting the stain and then flush with water and blot.
