Have you ever come down the stairs to find that your kids have started arts and crafts time? Sometimes kids don’t want to wait for the right moment and the right place to draw and color. Coloring and crafting with markers is a fun task that many kids choose to do. The problem is that if they are not careful when using markers, the mess can start to be a problem. It seems that just coloring on paper is not enough for some kids and the carpet, walls and furniture seem like a much better canvas. There are other times that someone can get a hold of a marker and might go rogue even though they are not supposed to have it. The great thing is that most kids markers are washable but still should be handled with some care when trying to clean them up. Tough Carpet Cleaning outlines what you can do to get markers off your carpets.
Start with Rubbing Alcohol to Remove Carpet Marker Stains
There are some ways that you can treat a maker stain that has ended up on your carpet. The great thing is that you can use items in your home to clean the stain. The first part of cleaning the stain is to work small and make sure that you do not allow the stain to spread out any further. You want to get some rubbing alcohol and use a clean cloth to clean the area. Blot the area with a cloth that has been soaked with rubbing alcohol. This will help to soften the stain by breaking down the color from the marker. Be sure that you start from the outside edge and work to the middle. Precise movements will help to not spread the stain out.
Get Old Marker Out of Carpet with Hair Spray
Now that the stain has been softened and it is looking not so bold you can use the next step to get the rest of the color out. This will require you to use hair spray which most homes already have in their house. You can spray the area with your aerosol hairspray on the rest of the spot. Then you want to use paper towels to dab at the spot. You should start to see that the paper towel is holding the color and it is coming off the carpet. This means that the rest of the stain is being removed and the carpet will be ready to be cleaned from the stain removal.
Carpet Cleaning Solution
Now that the carpet looks like the stain is gone you still need to take care of the carpet and the residue that is left behind. The best way to finish the cleaning process is to use a cleaning solution with two cups of warm water and a tablespoon of mild dish soap. You can use a cloth to dip in the solution then dab across the area that you cleaned the stain from. This will remove any residue that is left behind.
